About the Author
Brad Schiller is an experienced strategy consultant who has previously conducted over 100 case interviews. Brad spent nearly five years at a prestigious management consulting firm starting as a business analyst after graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and leaving as a manager of client projects to be the first non-founder employee at Airware, a venture backed drone company. Brad was heavily involved in recruiting for his firm. He organized and participated in many recruiting events, screened thousands of resumes, conducted over 100 interviews including many final round interviews, and participated in decision meetings including those to determine which candidates would receive offers. His interview experiences left him with the feeling that many candidates did not know how to approach getting the interview and then did not properly prepare for the interview itself. As such, Brad decided to write Embrace the Case Interview as a complete guide including what candidates need to do to get the interview and how to prepare for the interview itself. Today, Brad is an entrepreneur with his own firm, Beacon Ventures LLC, an independent consultancy that works with many startups as well as a few middle-market and large companies. Great guide to landing a consulting job

I've read a lot about the interview process recently (case interviews in particular) and this book offers a pretty unique perspective that I haven't found elsewhere. Schiller has been involved in the hiring process from beginning to end and he offers up useful advice on the whole process. I appreciated the fact that he touched on networking, resumes, cover letters, behavioral interviews, and more, as opposed to just focusing on the case interview. Instead of just telling you how to do well in all these aspects, he also gives you some insight into the thought processes of your potential employer at each step. For me, knowing what kind of information my interviewer/hiring manager is trying to gain at each step is HUGE in influencing my behavior.
I'm likely a bit more experienced in the field than the average reader and there were definitely times I found myself wishing that I'd read this BEFORE I first started job hunting for consulting jobs, as I could have learned these things the easy way (reading them) instead of the hard way (getting rejected from jobs!). Despite having been through the process a couple of times, there was still PLENTY here that I found new and interesting. I particularly enjoyed the second half, in which Schiller lays out his framework and also gives lots of examples and practice cases. Any prospective consultant worth their salt knows that they need to go into these interviews with a solid framework and Schiller's 6-pronged approach doesn't disappoint.

A Must For Anyone Considering a Career in Consulting.

I turned to this book as I was preparing for several rounds of case interviews during the spring semester of my MBA.
Although I found Embrace the Case to be really helpful with case prep, I was surprised by how valuable the chapter on behavioral interviewing was as well. Schiller provides clear guidelines on how to prepare for and structure responses to behavioral questions, and includes examples of what he observed from strong and weak candidates during the span of his career. Of course, the case interview is the focus of the book, and I preferred his simple, yet logical method of preparation to be far more accessible than memorizing the frameworks found in Case In Point or Case Interview Secrets. Schiller walks the reader through the process of developing a hypothesis and constructing a solid business case by thinking critically about the problem at hand. Essentially, the book teaches you how to think like a consultant, rather than how to impersonate one. I also appreciated the fact that the book goes into detail on how to approach company specific areas, such as operations and culture.
A+ Embrace the Case helped me to land my dream job, and with fall recruitment around the corner, I'll be passing it around to the 1st years in my program for sure.
