Miss Manners combines wit and heavy information to make a winning solution and a book that you can't put down. (Unless you have company of course, not putting it down could result in an ettiquette faux-pas!) A marvelous writer, this book should be read by all. Maybe then then world could operate in a more gracious manner.

From birth until death (literally), Miss Manners has advice for every step of the way. From birth ("It is considerate if the baby sleeps in a way so that the visitors can see his face.") to marriage ("Brides who ramble on about 'the happiest day' do not really realize what they are talking about.") to death ("If your crochety old great uncle died and left you a fortune, you are supposed to look solemn, if not actually grieved.")

Nothing is left untouched. An 8-year-old's problems with eating asparagus (correctly), how to address wedding invitations, and the adventures of the Perfect family grace Miss Manners' charm and wit in a wonderfully engaging way

At Long Last

In my senior year of high school, I came across this book in the library and found that I couldn't put it down. The current librarian was retiring at the end of the year, and I had begged and pleaded with her to let me purchase the book. She told me how she was a Southern Belle in her youth, and how she and her friends were instructed to read it to learn proper etiquette. She smiled at me and said I could not buy the book from the library; and I was certain at that moment that I would never come across the book again (as it is out of print). When passing by the wedding planning section this week at the Barnes & Noble, I instantly remembered Miss Manners and looked for the book which I had so desperately wanted to read again. The Barnes & Noble, of course, did not carry it; but undeterred, I ran to my laptop as soon as I came home and searched for it here on Amazon. Within a few short days---I was not expecting it until next week) I received the package in the mail. Enclosed politely within the pages was a short and sweet little note asking that I leave feedback and promising accommodation should there be any complications; and so I thought I would share this little anecdote. The book is without question delightfully funny and an absolute must-read, for anyone inquiring assistance in the realm of etiquette; but the seller is also by far the most well-mannered I have come across on this site. The book is in wonderful condition and I would love to do business again. Thank you~

Well balanced views on smoothies and weight loss

What struck me most is the well balanced views on Smoothies in this book. I especially appreciate the fact that Ms Lenhart gives the "whys" and "hows" instead of just a list of smoothie recipes. Knowing the reason 'why' is a powerful factor to motivate one to persevere.

Here's a quote from the book - "The most important factor here is that you work to fit smoothies into YOUR routine. It's not about all or nothing here. It's about making smart and sustainable health choices to help you lose weight, gain energy ..."

I like the part about fitting smoothies into MY routine, instead of changing my routine to fit the diet. Thumbs up!

So many of us have grown up watching the Enterprise and crews explore planets, fight aliens, and have nail-biting escapes that we never question the science. How would transporters work? Photon torpedoes? How fast is Warp 9? This book examines the physics of space travel and our current state of the art (not even close). But theoretically….

Yet as Krauss points out, that does not stop discussion of the latest ‘Trek’ over coffee the following day, such as this:
‘ By the same token, not just light but all massless radiation must travel at the speed of light. This means that the many types of beings of “pure energy” encountered by the Enterprise, and later by the Voyager, would have difficulty existing as shown. In the first place, they wouldn’t be able to sit still. Light cannot be slowed down, let alone stopped in empty space. ‘

Writing a positive review, because I wrote a negative review about another of this author's books. This was an enjoyable read. Any fan of Star Trek would learn a lot about why Star Trek physics are "impossible." Fun, but impossible. Mostly. I like books like this that can explain "how" things need to happen to achieve warp speed or beaming down. The book references all the series. A good read.

This is quite simply the best book on the Ricci Flow that I have ever encountered. This is the only book on the Ricci Flow that I have ever encountered. I believe that its value to the development and application of geometric analysis for the study of manifolds is incalculable (no pun intended). I must say, I have never seen nicer functions or such improved metrics. I am particularly impressed by by the talents of the second author, Dr. Dan Knopf, as displayed in this fine publication. His commanding grasp of the material, lucid and thought-provoking presentation, and fine expository style are nothing short of breathtaking. I am pleased to recommend this excellent work.
